It's great that we have a Flatpak package for the YAC suite, but KDE users might be frustrated to see that the "close to tray," and "open to system tray" functions don't work correctly...without some tweaks!
There are a couple options. GUI users will want to opt for the Flatpak permissions manager app
FlatSeal
. Linux pros will just want to manage the permissions in their terminal. (Scroll to the end to see those).
After opening FlatSeal you will find your installed Flatpak packages listed in the left of the app. Find, and select YACReader. First, find the section labeled "Socket" in the main window, and enable the toggle for "D-Bus session bus." Next we need to find the section "Session Bus" by scrolling down the window. You should see a list of "Talks" here. We are going to add two more to enable the app to talk with KDE's system tray. Click the "+" to the right of the "Talks" header to open a new field for what we need to add. Don't confuse this with the "Owns" section just below "Talks."
Add the following two talks.
Code:
org.freedesktop.Notifications
Code:
org.kde.StatusNotifierWatcher
You can close FlatSeal, and after restarting YACReader Library you should see that the app is able to use the system tray now.
If you just want to manage all this in your terminal, you want to run the following Flatpak commands.
Code:
flatpak override --user \
--talk-name=org.kde.StatusNotifierWatcher \
--talk-name=org.freedesktop.Notifications \
--socket=session-bus \
com.yacreader.YACReader
Shout outs to our atmosphere for sucking up the 0.1-1.0 grams of CO2 it took for ChatGPT to teach me all this. Let me know if I've missed anything, and I hope this helps. Maybe we can have the Flatpak package add these changes by default in the future.
