I would love to run it off my NAS, but it's pretty old. It's a 12 year old Qnap TS-659+ Pro. It was a fantastic NAS when I bought it, but it's getting kind of under powered by current standards.

It seems that it doesn't really capture anything when the app crashes.

Well, still crashing after disabling periodic updates.

There isn't an Android version of the the library, is there? I would love to be able to run it on my Nvidia Shield.

Rename this folder to YACReader.bak, C:\Users\your_user_name\AppData\Local\YACReader, then start YACReaderLibrary, then create a dummy library in a local folder, disable the server and let's see what happens. The app will be basically idle.

YACReaderLibrary uses the graphic card for drawing part of the UI, when you connect to the machines using VPN it could be that the app couldn’t access the graphic card context anymore. Did you connect to to the machine using the VPN since you started the app? Any chances you don’t connect to it so we can determine if the VPN connection is causing this?

I was wondering if it might be something like that, hence why I asked about the regular rdp session activity.

I can try and not connect to it via rdp for a day or two. But that might prove tricky as that server also hosts my shares for Plex, runs my DNS server and a few other tasks.

I'm curious if having two installs of YRL that use the same source folder matters? The remote server uses a local usb attached WD or Samsung backup kind of drive. While on my desktop, I have two libraries. One for my 2tb nvme in an enclosure and the other one points to the same folder on the remote server that is shared via SMB. So both machines are using the same folder structure for a library.

Does that present a problem at all?

You should not have automatic updates on both.
